It seems like just yesterday, more than 2 years ago, that the one-day Sunday meditation retreat had only about 5 to 10 participants and no female monks. Today, it’s the 100th retreat, a testament to the great efforts of the Vietnamese temple in Sri Lanka. In just 4 years, the meditation center has grown to over 100 members and continually offers:
1. Teaching Vietnamese and English languages
2. Providing scholarships to underprivileged students
3. Monthly offerings to female monks
4. Children’s meditation retreats on the full moon day
5. Adult meditation retreats on Sundays
6. Monthly vegetarian meal donations to the homeless
7. Promoting mindfulness meditation in universities and schools across Sri Lanka
The Truc Lam Meditation Center stands out as a very special Vietnamese temple abroad. It has not only imparted the bells of Vietnamese culture far and wide through its teaching, meditation, and activities but has also deeply integrated with the local community.
Sri Lanka has gone through very challenging times, and maintaining these authentic activities here is a tremendous effort by the Vietnamese people, preserving the traditional cultural values of the nation.
Continuing these activities in Sri Lanka requires the ongoing support of the Vietnamese Buddhist Association, monks, nuns, and Vietnamese Buddhist followers both within the country and abroad. Their encouragement and support are crucial for the Vietnamese temple in Sri Lanka to fulfill its mission of spreading Buddhism.
The 100th retreat deeply thanks Monk Thien Phap for connecting with Buddhist Lê Quỳnh, who has pledged to provide food offerings for one day of the retreat.
