SUPPORTING YOUNG MONKS IN STUDYING
Sri Lanka is currently considered the best environment in the world for studying and practicing Buddhism. Vietnamese young monks who have been ordained in Sri Lanka from a young age are fortunate to become proficient in the local Sinhala language, ancient languages such as Pali and Sanskrit, and especially English after five years in the intermediate Pirivena Buddhist studies program. All educational programs are free. All the studies and living arrangements for these young monks will be fully supported by Truc Lam Monastery.
Moreover, these young monks develop self-reliance from an early age and become more aware of the path they are and will be on. The suitable age for ordination is around 12 years old and above. Venerable Phap Quang will personally sponsor and select schools for the young monks to study at. Currently, the monastery has five novice monks aged 15, 16, and 17 who have been in Sri Lanka since 2020. Their studies and practice are progressing well, and their personalities have changed significantly, especially with limited exposure to games in the digital age.
These young seeds of Buddhism will become great trees in the future, ensuring the light of Buddhism continues to exist and be passed down in this world. Happiness will come to all beings.
Truc Lam Monastery wishes to support more young monks (novices) to study in Sri Lanka.
